Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a team-based process utilizing research-validated instruction and management practices to create safer and more effective schools. This systems approach to preventing and responding to classroom and school discipline problems enhances a schools capacity to educate all students. The process includes:
- consistent guidelines and expectations
- universally teaching students what is expected
- well-developed feedback systems both positive and corrective
- use of data to guide school improvement efforts.
Each school develops a system to address:
- all students, staff and settings
- common areas within the school
- classrooms
- individual student support for students exhibiting more challenging behavior
